The New England Patriots are in the process of completely overhauling their wide receiver room, as evidenced by the signings of Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins in free agency. However, even in a group that is as crowded as this one, one UDFA standout continues to make a name for himself.

Undrafted wide receiver Efton Chism III seems to be parlaying his success from Eastern Washington in to a very impressive showing in front of Patriots coaches. The minicamp darling appears to be closer than ever before to

According to Chad Graff of The Athletic, Chism, who has impressed both Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye in OTAs, has a "decent shot" of making the team despite the presence of youngsters like Ja'Lynn Polk and Kyle Williams ahead of him on the depth chart.

Patriots fans know the stereotypical slot receiver archetype that Josh McDaniels has promoted, as Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola both had some great moments in New England navy. Perhaps Chism could join that exclusive club with a strong summer.

Patriots WR Efton Chism III draws praise from The Athletic

Chism, a five-year contributor over at Eastern Washington, recorded over 3,700 yards receiving and 35 touchdowns during his time with the Eagles. In his final season, Chism hauled in 120 passes for 1,311 yards and 13 touchdowns, proving how unstoppable he was at the FCS level.

Chism went undrafted after a 4.70 40-yard dash paired with a 5-10 frame led to questions about his ability to win against NFL athletes. Still, his route-running and hands are tremendous, and New England values both of those traits.

Will Efton Chism III make the Patriots' roster?

The Patriots will likely keep six wide receivers on the 53-man roster. Polk and Williams likely have guaranteed spots, as do free agent signings Diggs and Hollins and explosive slot target DeMario Douglas. Chism needs to hope that Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, and Javon Baker all fall by the wayside.

Even if Chism doesn't make the final roster, the Patriots will likely do everything they can to keep him in a place of prominence on their practice squad. Chism faces long odds due to his lack of elit athletic ability, but he has many of the traits McDaniels likes in his receivers.
