Latest injury report shows Patriots averted disaster with Drake Maye
As the Patriots continue to prepare for their Week 7 matchup with the Jaguars on Sunday, their injury report continues to get longer and bring on more questions than answers. While the absence of running back Rhamondre Stevenson is concerning, seeing rookie quarterback Drake Maye pop up on Wednesday's report drew the most attention.
It became an even bigger deal when one Boston reporter claimed Maye received an MRI after practice this week, sending Patriots fans into a frenzy. However, other reporters from various outlets have not confirmed that it actually took place, nor did Maye look to be hindered at all during practice on Thursday.
He was listed as a full participant, and no wraps or braces were seen on his knee. He was also not noticeably limping or showing impairment, seemingly debunking the possibility of such a serious injury that would require an MRI.
It's unclear if the initial reporting is untrue, as the Patriots did not explicitly confirm or deny that Maye underwent the medical procedure. But based on his performance on the practice field, it looks like the Patriots averted an absolute disaster with their quarterback just one week after naming him their starter for the rest of the season.
Other than Maye, the rest of the injury report hasn't changed much besides more players fully participating in practice, which is a great sign ahead of a very winnable game.
It is concerning, however, that Stevenson remains sidelined and looks like he won't be making the trip across the pond this week. That's a massive blow to the offense's production, as much of their success has come off the back of their star running back. But they're fortunate to have a solid backup in Antonio Gibson and an improving receiving corps with the rise of Kayshon Boutte and DeMario Douglas.
