It isn't going anywhere until after June 1, folks. The New England Patriots' inevitable pursuit of and trade for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown is continuing to be a big topic, and for good reason.
This is a Patriots team that's coming off a Super Bowl appearance, so why wouldn't adding a Pro Bowl wide receiver be a thing? Until the trade ultimately goes down, this is going to be an everyday type of saga.
Speaking of which, during his time with the media on Tuesday, newly-signed safety Kevin Byard was asked about the possibility of adding Brown.
Boston Herald Patriots beat reporter Doug Kyed was there to get Byard's thoughts on the matter:
"Don't know what the situation is there. I hope it can work. I hope he can come here and play for us."
Clearly, Byard isn't privy to the conversations behind the scenes, which makes sense. But, even though he doesn't know what's going on with the Brown situation, he still made it clear that he'd love to have him in New England.
Kevin Byard sounds eager to reunite with AJ Brown in New England
Kyed also had this to say about Byard's comments today:
"Patriots S Kevin Byard said it would be "awesome" to play with A.J. Brown again, but he hasn't spoken to Brown about any sort of trade."
For those who may not know, Byard and Brown were brief teammates back during the 2023 season. The Eagles traded for Byard in October when they swooped him up from the Tennessee Titans. Byard would go on to play in 10 games for Philadelphia that season.
Byard is a three-time All-Pro selection while Brown has made the All-Pro Second Team three times on his own. To add a couple of All Pros to this roster, in one offseason, would wind up making Eliot Wolf look like a magician.
Byard led the league in interceptions last season while Brown finished with his sixth 1,000-yard season in seven years. This type of pairing doesn't often link up on a new team, in the same offseason, but here we are.
As time continues to wind down towards that oh-so-important June 1 milestone date, Patriots fans and players, alike, are all probably riding on the same tone right now, and that's one of anxiously awaiting the news.
It is only a short matter of time before Byard and Brown are teammates once more, and again, it sure looks like Byard is fully on board with the move.
