Is Drake Maye playing today? Full injury update for the Patriots quarterback
In their second matchup with the Jets last week, Drake Maye led the Patriots offense to the end zone early, recording the first NFL rushing touchdown of his career. He put the team on the board and looked ready to add more, only for a helmet-to-helmet hit to take him out early in the second quarter.
It left little optimism that they would manage to continue what Maye started against a struggling Jets team, especially since the rookie quarterback was named the starter in Week 6 because the offense had been failing. But Jacoby Brissett defied all expectations and led the Patriots to what seemed impossible: another win in the 2024 season.
The demonstration of the offense coming together to rally behind the veteran and do just enough to get the win was a sight to see, especially since things appeared to be falling apart behind the scenes.
In the following days, Maye remained in concussion protocol and was limited in practice all week long. But his status changed on Saturday when it was announced he had cleared protocol and was removed from the injury report ahead of Sunday's game.
Although Brissett proved he could still lead the team to a win, having him under center wasn't the ideal situation this week. There was hope that Maye would be signed off to play earlier in the week, if at all, and that dream came true for the team and the fans.
His status hasn't been confirmed yet, as he has just been reported to be available to play, but the assumption is he will be the starter as soon as the game begins.
The hope is he will continue to build upon what he's already demonstrated through two and a half games so far, which has already been impressive to most.
