The Patriots' 2026 roster is likely far from done, as the initial cuts rarely mean that's the team that will go into Week 1. What we do know is that the running back room is more defined, with Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson, and Corey Kiner leading the way.
Stevenson is expected to remain the RB1, and after an impressive yet under the radar summer, he could be on the brink of the best season of his career so far. That would be massive, considering how good Henderson was as a rookie and the likelihood that he will have an increased workload this season.
There's a lot to like about Kiner, too, and he might see a bit more reps from the backfield to start the season, since Henderson is reportedly dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered later in training camp.
Unfortunately, that appears to be lingering just eight days until the season opener, which is far from what the offense needs this close to Week 1.
Latest update on TreVeyon Henderson isn't all bad news for the Patriots
As the team gathers again in Foxboro on Tuesday, there were a lot of eyes set on those who are still dealing with an injury, with Henderson near the top of the list.
ESPN's Mike Reiss noted that the running back is recovering from his ankle injury but was still present for team activities on Tuesday afternoon. His return is still up in the air, however.
It's not exactly the update most fans were hoping to hear at this stage of the offseason, but it's still better than what it could be. If anything, it's more likely that the Patriots are taking the most cautious route with Henderson in hopes that he won't further injure himself before the rematch with the Seahawks on September 9.
That's something fans can easily get behind, and hopefully, that's all that it is. Obviously, if he's dealing with a worse injury than they're letting on, that would be devastating for the team.
We won't know definitively what his future holds until either he shares that information himself or the team releases an update. But for now, it seems like there is a bit more optimism that he will be ready to go next Wednesday in Seattle.
