How to watch Texans vs. Patriots in NFL Week 6 with & without cable
The Patriots are going into their Week 6 matchup with the Texans much differently than they did just a week ago. For starters, they made a shocking but not unexpected announcement that starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett would be benched for rookie Drake Maye starting this Sunday for the rest of the season, officially stamping 2024 as the start of the Maye era in New England.
The hope is he will bring the much-needed improvement to the offense to get the team back on track, and maybe even make them competitive. But that might not happen this week, as he's set to go against one of the best pass-rushing defensive lines in the entire league.
Expectations are high for Maye's first start, and while that's not necessarily a bad thing, they should be lowered. He might boost the team, especially since there were rumors of a mutiny beginning due to keeping him on the bench; he's still inexperienced in the NFL and will likely have growing pains to deal with until he gets comfortable.
The good thing is that he's continued to improve and impress on the practice field, and the team is rallying behind him ahead of their game on Sunday.
His first start will inevitably bring a lot more eyes to the game and add a lot more weight on his shoulders to perform, but even if he isn't able to lead the team to a win if he can show they are improving under his guidance under center, there's not much else you can ask for.
