As the offseason rolls on, teams will continue tweaking their rosters with mostly minor moves here and there. For the New England Patriots, one of those moves is about to count much more than "minor."

Once wide receiver AJ Brown is officially a Patriot, that'll be considered a "blockbuster."

But, that's not the topic at hand, for the moment.

Just this week, a former Patriots fourth-round pick was waived by just his second team in two years. Guard Layden Robinson was recently let go from the Las Vegas Raiders, and now, he could be facing an early career crossroads.

Layden Robinson could go from being a recent mid-round pick to out of the NFL in a hurry

Some Patriots fans might remember Robinson from his starting 11 games as a rookie back in 2024. You might also remember him for the wrong reasons, as Robinson was one of the worst guards in football that year, per Pro Football Focus.

Robinson finished with an overall grade of 43.6, which was good for ranking 74th out of a possible 77 qualifying guards that season. Needless to say, the Patriots had to revamp that offensive line for Drake Maye.

After only one season with the team, Robinson was waived-injured in August of 2025 for an undisclosed reason. It was a tough way to see a player go out who was so recently invested in.

A couple of months later, he was considered healthy and then signed with the Raiders to finish out the 2025 campaign.

But, the Raiders have also done a bunch of retooling and revamping of their own, across many fronts. They saw Robinson as being expendable, which now puts him in a difficult spot.

His rookie campaign was about as bad as it could've gotten. Of course, being put in a position where he had to start that many games as a fourth-round pick wasn't exactly the best course of action for his development. But, that's how it unfolded.

After not being on the field all of 2025, Robinson is staring at a harsh reality. Could he be out of the league after just two seasons?

In all likelihood, Robinson will get a camp invite elsewhere. Hopefully, for his sake, he is able to take full advantage of that invite and, at the very least, impress enough to warrant a place on another team's practice squad.
