It's never a dull offseason in New England, and unfortunately, that remains the case even with a new coaching staff running things in Foxboro. After what had predominantly been an exciting and scandal-free 2025 offseason, Mike Vrabel finds himself in a controversy tied to NFL insider Dianna Russini, as photos of the two together at a resort were published by tabloids last week.

Most of the conversation surrounding the team just days before the NFL Draft revolved around what might or might not be an affair, putting all parties' reputations at risk.

It's an unfortunate distraction that seems to remain a dark cloud over the Patriots, as it feels like every few months there's a new controversy involving the team in one way or another. And when it's this close to such an important event like the draft, it couldn't be worse timing.

The situation was certainly on the mind of reporters who attended Eliot Wolf's media availability on Monday, and although there wasn't a direct question asked about the ongoing situation involving the head coach, we did get a little bit of assurance that Vrabel isn't allowing it to get in the way of the task at hand.

Eliot Wolf inadvertently settled some concerns with his pre-draft media availability

Given that the draft kicks off next Thursday, reporters were focused on questions involving the Patriots' plan of attack to improve the roster, particularly after putting together such an impressive draft class last year.

Because of that, Vrabel was inevitably brought up, with one question about how involved he has been in the pre-draft process, seemingly answering any questions about what's going on behind the scenes with the Russini scandal that's a part of it.

Wolf emphasized that Vrabel has been "very involved" and that so far, it's been "business as usual," while also noting that the head coach has been even more present this year compared to last, which he believes might have to do with having a year under his belt as the Patriots head coach.

While that wasn't a response to a question tied to the whispering about Vrabel's controversy, it does let us know that it's, at the very least, not becoming an issue for the organization nor the pre-draft process, particularly for Vrabel.

It's crucial that things continue to go as they should, even with The Athletic's investigation into Russini continuing, and hopefully, we'll be able to move on from whatever this situation is or isn't sooner rather than later so we can get back to talking strictly Patriots football once again.
