The New England Patriots and Mike Vrabel are on a mission in the 2026 offseason. They came close to securing the ultimate prize, the Lombardi Trophy, in 2025 with a Cinderella-like season that unfortunately turned into the fantasy pumpkin one game too early.

Now Vrabel is onto Phase II of his rebuild, and one analyst has offered suggestions of some free agents connected to Vrabel or his staff who may make sense to sign.

The offensive line needs massive attention this offseason especially at tackle. Other positions of sneaky need also need to be addressed, such as running back and tight end. But guard is also a spot that Vrabel and his personnel team would neglect to address at his and the team's peril. The need to upgrade the guard position is keen.

With Jared Wilson likely moving to center to replace Garrett Bradbury, who'll probably be released to save cap space, guard would be a need position. The draft is a good way to add since good ones can be had anywhere from the fourth to the sixth rounds.

Patriots' examples include former fourth-round pick Shaq Mason and two sixth-rounders, Ted Karras and the current right guard Mike Onwenu. Yet, the optimum way for this Patriots' team would be to sign a plug-and-play guard who can step in now and upgrade the unit.

The former Raider who checks every box for New England

Mark Daniels of MassLive has suggested 2026 free agents connected to Mike Vrabel and his staff who might be of interest to the Patriots. One guard seems to fit the bill to a T and makes perfect sense: Dylan Parham of the Las Vegas Raiders.

"Parham is another option for the Patriots if they want to add a veteran left guard. He was drafted by the Raiders in 2022 when Josh McDaniels was the head coach. He started two seasons for McDaniels in Las Vegas and started 63 of 64 games played for the Raiders. Parham, 26, is in his prime and has some versatility. He’s played left guard, center and right guard."

Parham's age at 26, his familiarity with the offense run by McDaniels, his experience as a four-year veteran, and his ability to play both left and right guard are a great fit for the Patriots. The 6-foot-3, 332-pound Parham could step in immediately and upgrade the left guard position if Wilson moves to center as expected.

The Patriots signing guard Dylan Parham makes perfect sense

Dylan Parham checks just about every box for the Patriots if they correctly seek to upgrade the guard position in free agency. If he doesn't seek to break the bank, he'd be a dream guard signing only maybe eclipsed by one other guard in free agency: David Edwards of the Buffalo Bills.

The absolutely optimum scenario would be to sign both Edwards and Parham. The Patriots could then either release right guard Mike Onwenu outright and save $17.5 million on the cap, or trade him for value (hopefully more than their usual sixth-round pick return) and save $25 million on the cap. Parham would then step in and play right guard, and Edwards would slot in next to Campbell.

Mike Vrabel has major free agency and/or draft needs on both the offensive line (at both tackle and guard) and on defense at the edge. Guard is a sneaky need position. Signing a young veteran guard like Parham would be a solid move to provide the team with some needed stability on the left side.
