It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that the Patriots have a deep wide receiver room at this stage in the offseason, and narrowing it down to just six or seven for the upcoming season is going to be far more difficult than anyone anticipated, especially because it's been years since they have had the luxury of having this problem.

We already know that A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs will be the top starters, with Kayshon Boutte not far behind, regardless of the ongoing trade rumors surrounding his immediate and long-term future in New England.

Beyond them, we've seen an impressive jump in production from Efton Chism and DeMario Douglas, along with Mack Hollins, who has already become one of Drake Maye's favorite deep throw targets.

That leaves Kyle Williams at the bottom of the depth chart, which is concerning given he's only going into his second NFL season. But he has been a bit more involved in the offense lately, which is a positive sign for what's to come.

There have also been some standout moments from a few of the undrafted pass catchers they have brought in, most notably Kyle Dixon and Jimmy Kibble (before he was injured), further proving that Eliot Wolf and Co. have made a lot of good decisions in upgrading the talent around Maye ahead of the 2026 season.

The quarterback has made it clear that he enjoys having the current group of receivers to work with, prompting even Mike Vrabel to suggest they might keep seven on the roster, which is atypical, and that might be what they ultimately decide, especially if it were up to Maye.

Drake Maye is a big fan of who makes up the Patriots' wide receiver room

The 23-year-old made sure to let his feelings known about keeping the receivers happy throughout the season, becoming just the latest example of how much he wants to keep the current group together moving forward.

It's clear that the Patriots have a solid group on the roster right now, and it would probably be a gigantic mistake to cut anyone now or in the near future, especially since their quarterback has been consistently praising all his teammates this summer.

Maye has never shied away from wanting to make sure his teammates are content with their position on the team and that he does all that he can to make that happen.

Because he is the main component of what can keep receivers happy, it's unsurprising to hear that he takes personal responsibility in that and wants to keep things positive for the offense moving forward.

It's just the latest example of how much he respects the receivers he's currently working with, and he's already hyped them up in a way many others probably couldn't. That includes some of the lesser excitable names in the eyes of the fans, and that is another reason Maye is the perfect leader for this team.

He understands how he can utilize everyone and their skillsets to their best, and his best, ability and how they can keep the offense moving the ball when the time is right.

That's what makes it difficult to understand why the Patriots would be motivated to cut or trade any of their current top receivers, including Boutte, because they all serve a purpose on this team and can help them win games, which is exactly what they should want ahead of a difficult schedule.

On top of it all, injuries can happen to anyone at any time, and wouldn't it be better if they had a deep enough receiving corps that if one goes down, they still have a jam-packed room of talent?

No matter what the ultimate reason might be, it's clear that Maye and plenty of Patriots fans want to see as many wide receivers as possible stay on the team, and it's likely we will continue to hear that until it's time to make cuts later this month.
