There hasn't been much to get excited about in New England over the last few years regarding their quarterback situation. Mac Jones uplifted what had been a depressing time after Tom Brady left in 2020, but that only lasted one season until the quarterback room was in absolute chaos once again.

Luckily, the Jerod Mayo era yielded one good thing, and that was the selection of Drake Maye in the first round of last year's draft. Despite only starting 16 games as of the win over the Panthers, the young quarterback is already proving to be exactly what the team has been looking for over the last five years, and he further proved that on Sunday with a nearly perfect performance.

He has already been the subject of plenty of comparisons to other current quarterbacks in the league, most notably Josh Allen, primarily due to his size and the kind of game he plays as a mobile player.

But now we can put Maye in a conversation with Brady, as his last three games have landed him just behind the greatest of all time for an unbelievable reason.

Drake Maye is now on pace to tie or pass Tom Brady in an unbelievable way

Over the last three games, Maye has recorded an incredible stat line that is rarely seen by NFL quarterbacks, placing him on a list that consists of names like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Kurt Warner, making his performance that much more impressive.

Because he recorded 2+ touchdowns and a 75%+ completion in three consecutive games, he is now second all-time to have a streak in three games, only behind Brady, who recorded four games in 2007 with that kind of stat line.

As a Patriots fan, it's easy to remember how incredible that 2007 season was, which resulted in an undefeated regular season and Tom Brady winning the MVP award for a 4,806-yard and 50-touchdown season.

He was incredibly accurate, too, ending the season with a 68.1 completion percentage. As the stat line indicates, he broke the record by completing 75% of his passes in four consecutive games to start the year.

Maye is now in that same stratosphere at just 23 years old in his 16th NFL start. If that's not an indication of what the Patriots have in their next franchise star, it's difficult to say what is.

It's beyond clear that they made the right decision to draft Maye last year, and Mike Vrabel and Co. made the right decision to build around the quarterback to properly prepare him and the team for the future. We're already seeing the fruits of that labor, as evident in a nearly perfect game against the Panthers, and the hope is that they can continue that momentum against the Bills next week.

It won't be easy, especially in a hostile environment like Buffalo against an undefeated Bills team, but Maye is on track to accomplish that much sooner than anyone could have imagined.
