Several former Patriots players have joined the media ranks since retiring from the game. The most notable ones, of course, are Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, both of whom work for FOX Sports, with Brady serving as the lead game analyst.
David Andrews, who recently retired from the Patriots after a successful career at center, will be joining 98.5 The Sports Hub as a contributor during the season, according to Boston.com's Chad Finn.
The station broadcasts Patriots' home games over its airwaves, and Andrews' duties will include appearances on the Zolak and Bertrand show. "I’ve enjoyed a great relationship with The Sports Hub since coming to New England 10 years ago,” Andrews said. “I’m looking forward to providing my analysis and perspective across the station’s various platforms this season.”
Andrews' presence will be missed on the field, and part of the Patriots' offseason reconstruction was to sign free-agent Garrett Bradbury to fill the massive void on the offensive line. But Andrews was an intelligent player and will provide New England fans with a great voice and even better analysis throughout the season.
David Andrews' brilliance makes him a perfect fit for the airwaves
Not all former players are cut out to trade in their cleats for microphones when their playing careers come to an end, but quite a few have carved out a niche in the industry.
Andrews has what it takes to continue that trend, as 98.5 program director Rick Radzik told Finn that "David’s leadership and deep understanding of the game made him a standout on the field, and we’re excited to bring that same level of insight and authenticity to our listeners."
During a time when sports radio and television are littered with hot takes and guys spewing constant nonsense, Andrews could very well be a breath of fresh air. He was a captain for most of his career with the Patriots and was one of the last pillars of New England's dynasty.
Andrews also knows the offense and knows what Drake Maye can do under center, so having been in the huddle with the second-year passer, Andrews can provide solid insight into Maye's leadership and capabilities as a player.
Whenever Andrews is on the air, it'll be worth a listen for Patriots' fans throughout the region and the country.
