The disrespect for the New England Patriots' quarterback Drake Maye just keeps on coming. Once again, a major sports outlet has dissed the Patriots' star, who just missed the NFL's MVP award by one vote, in a new ranking of quarterbacks.
CBS Sports Bryan DeArdo not only doesn't rank Maye in his top 5, but consigns him essentially to a No. 16 ranking, right in the middle of the 32 NFL starting quarterbacks.
Previously, CBS Sports had ranked Maye only the 61st-best player in the NFL in another totally inexplicable ranking. The disrespect for Maye is just incessant, and all of it is just silly.
It's as though leading a mediocre receiving corps with a dreadful offensive line to a Super Bowl in your second season, and ranking sky-high as the NFL's best passer were totally meaningless.
Overlooking Drake Maye is an onging motivator for him and his team
The 16th-ranked quarterback in CBS Sports' list logged the NFL's highest completion percentage at 72 percent, a whopping seven points higher than the top-rated quarterback in this laughable list, Matthew Stafford.
He also led all NFL quarterbacks with a passer rating of 113.5, again well ahead of MVP Stafford's 109.2.
Despite that, CBS Sports did not rate Maye among the five "Transcendent Talents" top-tier quarterbacks, but he's well down the list (11th out of 12) in the second tier, "Borderline Stars".
"In just his second season, Maye led the Patriots back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2018 and made a push for MVP. The Patriots' offseason additions (which include the acquisitions of Brown, fellow wideout Romeo Doubs, and veteran offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker) have put Maye in a position to build off of last year's success."
This ranking completely disregards the fact that Maye was not only the NFL's best passer but also added over 450 yards, 38 additional first downs, and four touchdowns on the ground to his team's offense.
Other factors, such as Stafford having a top offensive line that allowed a mere 23 sacks while Maye was hammered incessantly and sacked 47 times, were ignored. Also, the MVP's receiving corps, with Puka Nacua on hand, was far and away superior to Maye's, which was also conveniently overlooked.
For Patriot Nation, there is a silver lining amid the incessant barrage of disrespectful rankings of their star quarterback. He and his revamped receiving corps, led by superstar A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, and his hopefully improved offensive line, should be well-motivated to prove CBS Sports and any other outlet that has disrespected Maye wrong.
