In their efforts to bring a true No. 1 receiver to the Patriots' offense last offseason, Mike Vrabel and Co. decided to take a gamble on then-31-year-old Stefon Diggs, who was coming off a 2024 season ended by an ACL injury. He had been the top name to hit free agency, yet he fell into the Patriots' lap after the initial flurry of signings was over.
It prompted a lot of skepticism about his fit on the team, mainly due to his apparent behavioral issues that ended his tenures in Buffalo and Minnesota. Although nothing had been said about his time with the Texans, it was still considered a risk to bring him in, particularly with Vrabel trying to establish a new culture in the locker room.
Fortunately, so far, so good for Diggs and his new team, and you could even argue it's been far better than that. Not only did he become the first receiver to record 1,000+ receiving yards since Julian Edelman in 2019, but he also established an instant leadership role that has benefitted the entire Patriots' roster.
A lot of that has come with a noticeable attitude shift, as he has not shown the same antics Patriots fans came to hate during his time with the Bills. And Diggs' latest comments prove why that is, with much of the credit going to the coaching staff for helping him grow in a short time since joining New England.
Stefon Diggs gives the Patriots credit in a way Bills fans definitely won’t love
While speaking to reporters earlier this week, Diggs had nothing but appreciation for offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and credited his knowledge of the game and, as a human, for helping him be more unselfish, among many other things, over the past year.
It's this kind of attitude that Bills' fans wished they'd seen from the receiver during his four years in Buffalo, making it even worse to know that he's flourishing with their biggest rival instead.
Stefon Diggs on playing for Josh McDaniels: "I've learned a lot...learning to be unselfish, it pans out well for everybody...I've got a lot of love and respect for McDaniels, he's taught me more than I can share...he's always got a trick up his sleeve."

Actions speak louder than words, so while this is great to hear from Diggs, his behavior so far has proven that this is, in fact, true.
He has been the kind of team player that Buffalo fans claimed was lacking when he was hoping to win championships with their team. But that hasn't been an issue whatsoever since he arrived in Foxborough, thankfully.
He now has a chance to build his Patriots' legacy even more this weekend, as he heads into only the second AFC Championship of his career, and hopefully, they can sneak out of Denver with the win.

That would mean Diggs, who has been an impressive receiver during his 11 years, would also experience his first Super Bowl, along with the majority of the current roster.
It would be a fitting way to end what has been a phenomenal season, and what a great way for Patriots fans to feel even better about their season than seeing a player like Diggs accomplish that feat with their team instead of the Bills.
