When Bill Belichick was dismissed from the Patriots in 2024, it was widely reported that things had gotten pretty tense behind the scenes, leading to his departure. Rumors claimed his relationship with Robert Kraft had become strained since Tom Brady left four years prior, and there was a lack of trust between the longtime successful duo, which may have played a role in how poorly the team performed in the years since.

That was made apparent through various interviews and tv appearances Belichick made throughout the year, especially after the controversial documentary on the Patriots dynasty was released by Apple TV+.

It was also clear that his one-time close friendship with Jerod Mayo was no longer positive, as reports suggested the former linebacker had conversations about succeeding his mentor before he was fired, which Belichick may have found out about. So it wasn't surprising that he wasn't necessarily the most supportive during Mayo's tenure.

That's not the case with Mike Vrabel, however, who Belichick couldn't stop raving about on Monday morning after he was formally introduced as the 16th head coach in franchise history.

Bill Belichick raved about how good of a player, man and coach Mike Vrabel is and was in reaction to his new gig with the Patriots

Making his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Belichick was (of course) asked about the Patriots new head coach, not only because Mayo is already being replaced, but also because he coached Vrabel during his eight seasons in New England.

To say that Belichick had a lot to say about the decision would be putting it lightly. He couldn't have said anything more complimentary of Vrabel if he tried, which is great news for Patriots fans and what they'll be getting out of the former Titans head coach.

This is quite a contrast from what Belichick had to say about Mayo's promotion last year, but given the circumstances, it's not exactly surprising we didn't hear a glowing review from him.

Regardless, Vrabel impressed during his presser and answered every question reporters had. He shared a clear vision for the team and what he hopes to accomplish, with a heavy focus on accountability and brotherhood, which appeared to be lacking last year.

He already set the tone and is aware of the issues he's about to face with the roster and what his job will entail, exciting the fans for what's to come for the first time in a long time. That makes Belichick's approval mean even more.
