Another Patriots trade target could be off the board before making an offer

One of the biggest roster holes the Patriots still need to properly address is their pass rush, as they have only signed Dre'Mont Jones in free agency thus far. Other than that, they have failed to re-sign K'Lavon Chaisson and Khyiris Tonga, both of whom have agreed to contracts with other teams, and now most believe their next best pathway to the player they need is through a trade.

Among the most desirable players to fill that role has been Jonathan Greenard, for whom the Vikings were willing to trade away this offseason for the right price. The Patriots were immediately considered a team that could get a deal done, but nothing has been reported regarding their interest.

If they had any plans to call about the veteran's availability, they appear to be running out of time, as the latest update from the linebacker appears things might be on the mend with Minnesota.

Jonathan Greenard's future with the Vikings is starting to look confusing

In a new Instagram post on Monday, Greenard shared a photo of some of his accomplishments since he joined the team in 2024.

Some speculate that this is an indication of an upcoming extension, like Adam Patrick of The Viking Age, while others don't think much of it. Regardless, it's certainly something the Patriots should be paying attention to with their options to upgrade their defensive line starting to dwindle.

Whether this has any meaning behind it or not, there's no reason for Mike Vrabel and Co. not to inquire about what the Vikings want for Greenard.

Although he isn't exactly the kind of player they might have been hoping for, like Maxx Crosby, he's still an upgrade over what they had in 2025, and if they want their defense to improve, they need to make some more moves.

It's already assumed that they're going to use their early round draft picks on EDGE players, which is a wise choice. But they should add some veterans into the mix, not just for depth, but for their experience and leadership in the locker room.

Greenard fits that and then some, so if they want what he can bring to their team, they'll have to act fast or risk losing out on another potential trade target.
