With trades on the horizon as free agency is about to begin, the Patriots are connected to some of the top stars expected to be moved this offseason. One of the most discussed names in recent weeks has been Maxx Crosby, whose 2025 season ended abruptly and was reportedly not well-received by the pass rusher, who higher-ups in Las Vegas shut down due to a lingering injury.

He has since undergone surgery to repair the injury and should be good to go for the start of the 2026 season, but because of the apparent fallout with the team, he has become a top prospect to be traded ahead of the draft.

The Patriots have been considered a top landing spot for Crosby, but the latest information from NFL insider Adam Schefter would immediately eliminate them from even making the call.

The Patriots are not in a position to give up this much in a trade for Maxx Crosby

During a recent appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic’s Kincade and Salciunas, Schefter spoke about the possibility of Crosby starting with a new team in 2026, and revealed that from what he's heard, it would take a Micah Parsons-like offer to make it happen.

Parsons was traded by the Cowboys to the Packers for a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and DT Kenny Clark. That is not something the Patriots should even consider giving up, no matter how good Crosby would be for their defense.

It also doesn't seem like something that Mike Vrabel would be willing to entertain, anyway, as he has made it very clear that he wants to build the Patriots' roster through the draft or picking up young players other teams gave up on, which he did a lot of, successfully, this past year.

Crosby doesn't fit that, nor would giving up multiple first-round picks, despite how transformative he would be for their budding superstar defense.

There are other options they can consider signing, instead, like Trey Hendrickson, or they could look to fix their pass rushing woes in the draft, particularly with their first-round pick.

No matter what, it's looking increasingly unlikely that Crosby will be suiting up with the Patriots any time soon, regardless of how badly fans want to see it happen as soon as possible.
