After months of speculation and rumors, the New England Patriots were able to land receiver A.J. Brown. The Pats sent a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia to get the receiver in town.
His connection with head coach Mike Vrabel played a major role in his desire to get traded to New England. Brown also provides this team with a true No. 1 receiver and could play a major role in their chase of another Super Bowl.
They weren't able to get over that hump last year, in part due to the lack of playmakers. And Brown can quickly show the world that his presence can take them to another level, as the Patriots play the Seattle Seahawks to open the season in a Super Bowl rematch.
A.J. Brown will be able to show how he can take the Patriots to another level
In that loss to Seattle in Super Bowl LX, Mack Hollins was their leading pass catcher, reeling in four catches for 78 yards and one touchdown. While that was great for Hollins, the Patriots know they need more, and having a player of Brown's caliber really helps.
It also helps to know that Brown has played in two Super Bowls and has found success, logging nine catches for 139 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His last outing in the Super Bowl, Brown finished with just 43 receiving yards and a score, but it was a rout, where the Eagles were up 34-0 over the Chiefs at one point.
They didn't have to throw the ball, which impacted Brown's stats. Nonetheless, the Ole Miss product has shown that he's one of the top receivers in the game. Across seven NFL seasons, Brown has tallied 524 catches for 8,029 receiving yards and 56 touchdowns, including 1,000 yards in six of his seven campaigns.
During last season with the Eagles, Brown called out the offense and was reportedly upset with his target share. That won't be the case in New England, as Maye will be sure to feed his new star receiver.
And that could come as soon as Week 1 against Seattle. If Brown comes out and dominates in that contest, that will be eye-opening, especially if they can defeat the Seahawks in the process. It will show the entire league that Brown's presence has not only taken this team to new heights but also made them a legit Super Bowl threat in 2026.
Adding Brown and Romeo Doubs to the receiving corps is massive for New England and should pay massive dividends for this group.
