On Monday, Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report named the New England Patriots as one of the top fits for quarterback Ryan Tannehill.  It seems I’m not the only one who thinks that Ryan Tannehill could be a logical fit in New England.

Davenport proposed five teams as being the top landing spots for the former Miami Dolphins and current Tennessee Titans’ QB, who is likely going to end up on a different team in 2023.  The Titans fired their previous General Manager, Jon Robinson, during the 2022 season and brought in former San Francisco 49ers’ front office member Ran Carthon in to replace him.

He’s gotten to work in cutting a handful of veteran players, and I’m not so he’s quite done yet.  There’s been rumors that the team could move on from Derrick Henry, which makes a lot of sense, and Tannehill would be another logical choice to move on from as well.

In the article, Davenport had this to say:

Unless, of course, the Pats flipped one quarterback for another.

"New England isn’t a rebuilding team—the Pats of aspirations of contending in 2023. If Belichick truly is ready to move on from Jones, then a QB swap with the Titans could help keep New England in the hunt in 2023.Perhaps the change of scenery would help Jones recapture his 2021 form. And with at least two years left on his rookie deal, the Titans would have options under center moving forward."

The first paragraph was my same line of thinking in my most recent piece about this situation.

Mac Jones does not provide the type of stability and quality play that Ryan Tannehill would provide, even if it was for a year.  Davenport also included potential trade packages for each team fit, and here’s what he proposed for trade compensation:

"Patriots Get: Ryan Tannehill, 2023 Round 5 Pick (No. 147)Titans Get: Mac Jones, 2023 Round 6 Pick (No. 187)"

I don’t hate this potential trade, at all.  The Patriots aren’t really giving much up at all but do net a positive in draft capital return and do land the better quarterback.

Should we be paying close attention to the possibility that Ryan Tannehill ends up in New England?
