There is still much to do with the rest of the 2023 offseason. What could the worst case scenarios be for the Patriots during the rest of the offseason?  While there is room for the Patriots to improve their roster during the rest of the offseason, they also have just as much of a chance to mess this up.

With the 2023 NFL Draft about a week and a half away and the last waves of free agency after the draft left, could the Pats endure the worst case scenarios for their roster?  Let’s hope not, but let’s talk about them.

3 worst case scenarios for the Patriots during rest of 2023 offseason

Scenario 1: Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe are the top two QBs for 2023

This will be a worst case scenario for the Patriots in 2023.  I understand that it might be quite hard at this point to greatly alter the room, but something needs done.  Whether the Pats take to the NFL Draft or make a last-ditch effort to get Lamar Jackson, they need to do something.

The AFC is far to stacked for Mac Jones to make legitimate headway.  The AFC East is also going to be a gauntlet once Aaron Rodgers arrives in New York.

Scenario 2: Riley Reiff and Trent Brown are the starting tackles

So it’s not that I dislike Riley Reiff and Trent Brown, but with the type of capital the Patriots have, I’d be quite disappointed that they don’t come away with a top tackle prospect who can start in week one.  Maybe that’s me being too patient and premature, but Cole Strange started for the Pats all season.

So I’d think a first or second round tackle could likely do the same.  Reiff and Brown are solid at best, but the two have a low-ceiling/low-floor type of potential, which could be horrible news for Mac Jones or whoever else is taking snaps for the team.

Scenario 3: The rest of the division continues to beef up their rosters

The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets specifically have done a ton of work building up their rosters this offseason and are clearly going all-in for 2023.  The Jets have rolled out the red carpet for the eventual arrival of Aaron Rodgers.  They signed Allen Lazard and Mecole Hardman.  Getting Rodgers will be the icing on the cake.

The Dolphins have added Jalen Ramsey and Chosen Anderson this offseason.  Vic Fangio joined the team as their new defensive coordinator, so this is a team that can surely take a huge step in 2023.

The Bills are likely targeting a wide receiver high in the 2023 NFL Draft and have largely kept their offensive and defensive core together, so I don’t see how they aren’t just as good next year.
