In this latest mock draft, the New England Patriots take a bit of a silly approach and only draft positions that are their most urgent needs.  This isn’t going to happen, but man, the sheer amount of possibilities that can happen during the 2023 NFL Draft is insane to think about.

In this most recent mock draft, the New England Patriots take a unique approach and are only picking positions that are largely considered their most urgent needs:

Wide receiver, offensive line, and cornerback.

Yep.  This mock draft is only three positions taken for the Pats.

New England Patriots’ Mock Draft: Filling necessary holes

14th overall: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia

Broderick Jones is probably going to be a week one starter for the Pats.  He really has all the tools that a franchise tackle needs, and maybe in this scenario, Jones takes over at left tackle and Trent Brown and Riley Reiff duke it out for the right tackle spot.

46th overall: Rashee Rice, WR, SMU

He’s got quick feet and twitchy movements.  He’s very, very athletic and is some fresh and young blood for the Patriots and their wide receiver room, which desperately needs a boost.

76th overall: Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami (FL)

Stevenson is 6’0″ and 198 pounds, so he’s already the biggest cornerback the Patriots‘ have.  He’s also got a 37.7″ vertical jump and oozes athleticism.  It’s not that the Pats don’t have talented cornerbacks–they do, but getting someone who has true CB1 potential and is simply of adequate size for the position is a need.

107th overall: Tyler Steen, OT, Alabama

117th overall: Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State

135th overall: Wayna Morris, OT, Oklahoma

184th overall: Jarrett Patterson, OC, Notre Dame

187th overall: Cameron Mitchell, CB, Northwestern

192nd overall: Terell Smith, CB, Minnesota

210th overall: Dontay Demus Jr, WR, Maryland

245th overall: Michael Jefferson, WR, Louisiana

Ok, so, obviously New England isn’t just going to make all of their draft picks one of three possible positions, but this is moreso to highlight the urgent needs on the roster.

Wayna Morris and Jarrett Patterson could both end up being quick starters for the Patriots.  Dontay Demus Jr is a specimen for the position, standing at 6’3″ and weighing 212 pounds.  Michael Jefferson is another X type receiver standing at 6’3″ and weighing 19 pounds.

How would you all react of the Pats did go into this draft and only selected cornerbacks, wide receivers, and offensive linemen?

This draft nets them four OL, four wide receivers, and three cornerbacks.
