Patriots could have insane starting offense in 2023
If the Patriots want to turn the aggressiveness up a notch during the rest of the offseason, they could have an insane starting offensive lineup in 2023. Right now, the Pats have the potential to trot out an insanely talented starting offense in 2023 if they played their cards right.
New England was an obvious candidate to welcome upgrades to their offense for 2023. They started by hiring Bill O’Brien as the new offensive coordinator which should be an immediate help. They also managed to essentially replace Jonnu Smith with Mike Gesicki, added another quality running back to the mix in James Robinson, and signed JuJu Smith-Schuter, who is a marginal upgrade over Jakobi Meyers.
The Patriots still have some room to upgrade their offense. They could make a Lamar Jackson situation work if they really wanted to, and surely could offer a competitive package to land DeAndre Hopkins from the Arizona Cardinals, right?
Well, what happens if the rest of the offseason ends up going as well as possible for the team? If by some chance it happens, the Pats’ offense in 2023 could be lethal:
- QB: Lamar Jackson
- RB: Rhamondre Stevenson
- WR: DeAndre Hopkins
- WR: JuJu Smith-Schuster
- WR: DeVante Parker
- TE: Mike Gesicki
- LT: Riley Reiff/rookie draft pick
- LG: Cole Strange
- C: David Andrews
- RG: Mike Onwenu
- RT: Trent Brown
Could you imagine if this ended up happening? It might not be likely that the Patriots land Lamar Jackson and DeAndre Hopkins, but it’s possible until it isn’t, right?
The team would have a true threat at each skill position, including quarterback, and would have multiple ways to beat opponents. Jackson would finally have competent weapons around him and would also be protected by what could be a very solid offensive line.
At this point, nothing that Bill Belichick does surprises me, and surely he doesn’t think that Mac Jones with the current wide receiving core is enough to compete in the loaded AFC. The Patriots have enough draft picks and cap space to make something like this happen.
