The Patriots might have a clear path to land Lamar Jackson

As it stands right now, there has been little movement in the Lamar Jackson situation, so could the Patriots make a play for him with little competition?  I just do not understand how Lamar Jackson is not either signed back with the Baltimore Ravens or has been offered about 20 different offer sheets to sign.

Teams seem to be shying away from the possibility of signing Jackson, and I don’t get it.  I think wanting a fully guaranteed deal has surely turned some teams away, and Jackson’s injuries are also likely turning suitors away, but the idea of a former NFL MVP and the best dual threat QB to ever play the game not having more interest is wild to me.

According to Jeremy Fowler, there has not been an offer sheet for Lamar Jackson as of yet.

He went on to say more:

"“There’s been no firm offer sheet for Lamar Jackson right now. He has not signed his franchise tag, so this all has to be hashed out and really the draft could be a good indicator for the league. Because if there’s a team in the top 10 that can’t get its passer, let’s say they’re going for Bryce Young or C.J. Stroud and can’t get him. Maybe it’s Indianapolis at No. 4 if they don’t get their guy, they could pivot to Lamar Jackson and give up two first-round picks to acquire him. We just talked about the Jets. If for some reason the Aaron Rodgers trade would fall through–nobody expects that– they could pivot to Jackson. And then when you talk about good fits, I asked some executives around the league what teams would make sense. They mention Tennessee, who just cleared some cap space. They have a new GM Ran Carthon, who’s working on the roster. They could use a running quarterback; they have experience with that in the past. And even a wild card like Minnesota. Kirk Cousins has one year left on his contract if they want to reestablish their identity there.”"

Fowler seems to indicate that some teams could pivot to Lamar Jackson, almost as a second option, if their first option isn’t available anymore.  Well, if that’s where a lot of teams stand, why should the Patriots just sit around?

Again, I repeat, they have the cap space and draft picks to make this type of deal happen.  The AFC East is going to become that much better as soon as Aaron Rodgers lands in town, and Mac Jones will not scare anyone.

This would be a genius move from Bill Belichick if he could pull it off.  Being able to bring a former MVP into the mix would make the Patriots into a serious contender once again, and as of now it appears as if they’d have little competition to acquire his services.
