It is always hard to see a fan-favorite player leave the Patriots, especially a player so beloved as Jakobi Meyers.

It seemed that the receiver was also not thrilled with having to move on, claiming he signed with the Raiders because they were a team that wanted him, and the Patriots didn’t.

He also took to Twitter after JuJu Smith-Schuster was announced to be signing with New England on Wednesday on a similar contract that Meyers received from the Raiders. Because it was assumed the Patriots were unwilling to pay him below his projected worth, considering that’s what Las Vegas offered, his comments seemed to align with that assumption.

Patriots fans came in droves to support their team’s former receiver, sharing their admiration and love for Meyers after all he brought to the team over the last few years.

Of course, the tweet gained a lot of attention outside of New England, and the Las Vegas media made sure to ask about the tweet when Meyers spoke to them on Thursday morning.

"“I just like messing with people. I just like getting under people’s skin. But, honestly, I appreciate them for everything that I’ve been through there. I never really got to say… well, I did get to say goodbye, but I never really got to tell them bye as I was leaving the building. That was just me being childish, for real. But I love them, but I’m also happy to be here.”"

Now that he’s set to reunite with his former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels out in the Patriots west, hopefully, Meyers can be just as successful, if not more, with the Raiders.

He’s not the first, nor will he be the last, universal favorite player not to be re-signed, but he’s undoubtedly one that Patriots fans will likely continue to cheer on for years to come.
