On Monday, two major right tackle free agents both agreed to deals with teams not named the New England Patriots. The Pats need to make a move.  Perhaps they have a plan for this position that could include moving Trent Brown back to his more natural position.

However, both Mike McGlinchey and Jawaan Taylor agreed to deals with other teams in the AFC not named the Patriots.

Dianna Russini reported that the Denver Broncos are expected to sign Mike McGlinchey

This news broke about an hour after the legal tampering period began.  That’s one potential right tackle option gone.

Then about an hour later, the Kansas City Chiefs swooped in and are expected to sign Jawaan Taylor, former right tackle of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

I suppose Taylor could even slide over to the LT spot if the Chiefs don’t find a solution with Orlando Brown being a free agent, but either way, Taylor would have been a huge help for the New England Patriots.

The only viable starting tackle on the roster right now is Trent Brown, and no matter if he plays right tackle or left tackle, the Patriots need to make an addition or two in this room.  Perhaps they were never going to be in on the top of the market anyway, but it’s frustrating to see nonetheless.

We are still very early in this process and I’d expect New England to go ahead and invest some in the free agent market, but their second most pressing need has not gotten love yet all while other teams have signed players that would have fit right in on the team.

What is good, though, is that the Pats appear to have as good of an iOL as possible with Cole Strange, David Andrews, and Mike Onwenu, who would be due for a new contract soon.
