Beginning when free agency starts on Wednesday, March 15th. The New England Patriots can begin to talk to Lamar Jackson and sign him to an offer sheet.

Since the Baltimore Ravens put the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, other teams can talk to him.  Since he doesn’t have an agent, I suppose teams will literally be trying to reach out to Jackson.

A team can sign him to an offer sheet, and he could sign it.  The Baltimore Ravens would then be able to match the sheet, and if they don’t want to, they’d get two first round picks in return for Jackson.

The New England Patriots are such a logical destination for Lamar Jackson it isn’t even funny.  They’ve got the cap space, draft picks, and a huge need at the position.  This is especially true if the New York Jets do indeed land Aaron Rodgers.

Even if the Jets didn’t, the Patriots are still clearly the fourth best team in the division.  The main issue that the team does have is a huge issue that the Ravens have had, and that’s the lack of high-end talent at the receiver position.

If the Pats were to somehow land Lamar Jackson, I’d assume they’d also work hard to upgrade their receiving core.  They’d still have their own second round pick in 2023 that they could try and leverage for a WR or even a draft pick in the future.

Keeping the receiving core as strong as possible does start by re-signing Jakobi Meyers to a deal that’ll likely pay him between $12-$16 million per season.

Buckle up, because I think the New England Patriots are going to make some serious moves in free agency, which starts in just a couple of days.

Bill Belichick might have one last go at this thing and I’d assume he’d make the most of it.
