With the amount of free agents available each offseason, teams like the Patriots are going to look far and wide to find players to fit their roster.  While the team does have money to spend in free agency, that doesn’t mean they have to go big.

I do think expectations for free agency should be kept as realistic as possible.  I do think it’s fun to witness our favorite teams spending big, but I’d much rather them sign players that fit the roster.

Bill Belichick will again, for the second offseason in three years, have millions to spend.

What would another realistic free agent haul look like for the Patriots?

Another realistic free agent haul for the Patriots in 2023

1. Eric Fisher, T

The first player will be a solid left tackle who was a former number one overall pick.  Fisher spent most of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs before signing with the Indianapolis Colts for a season and also did sign on with the Miami Dolphins this year.

Fisher can hold the fort down for a year or two while the Patriots develop a long-term left tackle situation.

2. DJ Chark, WR

DJ Chark is a big-bodied wide receiver who has struggled with injuries for most of his career, but he did make a Pro Bowl and a 1,000 yard receiving season in 2019.  He’s got 4.3 speed and is a true athlete at the position.

He signed with the Detroit Lions in 2022 for $10 million on a one year contract.  He may just get more on a multi-year deal, but this isn’t someone that the a team will need to truly break the bank for.

The Pats might see some upside in Chark and bringing him to New England may be a smart investment.

3. Emmanuel Moseley, CB

Moseley tore his ACL during week five of the 2022 season and will likely be ready for the start of the 2023 season.  He’ll be just 27 years old this coming season and has spent his career with the San Francisco 49ers thus far.

Moseley would give the Patriots some much needed help in the secondary.  He’s a veteran player and can give them a nice veteran presence in the locker room as he’s played in Super Bowls and has played deep into the NFL playoffs.

The Patriots would find some stability in the secondary with Moseley.

4. Billy Turner, OL

Billy Turner can play multiple positions along the offensive line but has primarily been a right tackle in the NFL.  He’s spent most of his career with the Denver Broncos and Green Bay Packers and is a free agent this year.

Depending on what happens with Trent Brown, the Pats could sign Billy Turner and stick him at right tackle.  He’s not a long-term solution, but, much like a potential Eric Fisher signing, could hold the position down for a year or so if the team were to use one of their draft picks on a developmental right tackle prospect.
