Should the Patriots make a move for Allen Robinson?
The Los Angeles Rams are allowing wide receiver Allen Robinson to seek a trade. Should the Patriots inquire about his services? Yeah, I know, another retread at wide receiver, right?
Well, the Pats do need help at this position and Robinson could provide that. He was a big free agent addition last year for the Rams. Los Angeles was active in the free agent market and it appeared like they were set to run it back.
However, that all crashed and burned and now they appear to be parting with some veterans. They already released Bobby Wagner and Robinson won’t be back with them in 2023.
Robinson, 29, was a second round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars back in the 2014 NFL Draft.
He’s been in the league for nine years and has three 1,000 yard seasons to his credit, with the most recent one coming in 2020 with the Chicago Bears.
He also made a Pro Bowl in 2015 but has not been able to put up notable production since that 2020 season. Over the last two years, he’s had 410 yards and 339 yards in 2021 and 2022.
Whether its QB play, him having lost a step, or both, Robinson simply hasn’t been the player he once was.
Robinson would instantly become the best WR on the Patriots’ roster depending on if they re-sign Jakobi Meyers.
He’s got two years of playoff experience and nearly a decade of NFL experience.
To me, this could be low cost, high reward addition for the club. It won’t be smart to expect Robinson to achieve his former 1,000 yard self, but if he was given the WR2-3 type of role, then I think good things could happen.
What if the Patriots were to trade for Robinson, use their first round pick on a WR, and re-sign Jakobi Meyers? You’d then have a WR core of:
- First round draft pick
- Jakobi Meyers
- Allen Robinson
- Kendrick Bourne
I think you could be onto something special then.
