Massive news drops about the Patriots offseason plans
Chad Graff, who covers the Patriots for The Athletic, dropped a very massive tidbit of news regarding the team and the wide receiver position.
One of the biggest positions that the team needs to get better at this offseason is the wide receiver position, and this class appears to be solid in that regard. However, even though the Patriots do have the 14th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, Chad Graff, who covers the team for The Athletic, indicates that the team might want to go in another direction at the position.
This is huge, huge news. This gives legs to the idea that the team is going to be aggressive in free agency trying to improve the roster, and perhaps this potential aggressiveness is a ultimatum from Robert Kraft to Bill Belichick.
The Pats have had two losing seasons over the last three years and the team currently does not appear to be well-positioned going forward. There are questions with the long-term viability of Mac Jones and the offense does not have any major playmakers on it.
Perhaps this is going to be one last crack at it for Belichick and the current Patriots’ structure.
If the team stumbles to a 8-9 or 9-8 season and fails to make the playoffs, changes should be coming, and the quickest way to shove a team back into contention is to be aggressive in free agency and to not be afraid to use the draft picks to acquire players.
DeAndre Hopkins and Brandin Cooks are both mentioned as trade targets, and there are connections between them and the team.
I’d think that the former Patriot Cooks is the more likely candidate to be traded to the team between him and Hopkins. Expect Bill Belichick and New England’s front office to be heavily involved in trying to improve this roster, especially on offense.
