Nick Shook writing for NFL.com hit on one free agent fit for each AFC team, and he mocked Robert Woods as being a good fit for the Patriots.

You know, I really do not hate this idea, but some may scoff at the idea of the Patriots bringing in another wide receiver who appears to be over the hump.  It does sound ridiculous but if Woods were to be brought in, it certainly would not be for the WR1 role in New England.

The team did hire Bill O’Brien to be the offensive coordinator, so I do have faith in that side of the ball to figure it out in 2023 and perhaps return to a more competent level.

Nick Shook mocked one player as a perfect fit to each AFC team in 2023, and he claims that Robert Woods would fit right in with the Patriots.

He’s not entirely wrong.  Woods was drafted in the second round in the 2013 NFL Draft and has played for the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams, and Tennessee Titans.

He’ll turn just 31 years old, so even though he’s entering his 11th year in the NFL, his age isn’t a total turnoff.  Woods does have two 1,000 yards seasons to his credit.  He has 7,604 yards over his 10 year career and has proven to be a reliable WR2 or WR3 in the NFL.

He only managed 527 yards this year for the Titans, a career low, but Tennessee was not exactly a pass first team, so I don’t think it’s because Woods is over the hump.

He could be a solid signing for the Patriots for a year or two.  A true quality veteran, Woods could provide necessary leadership for the WR group, and could rub off in a good way for the Pats if they do invest a high draft pick in a WR they hope could develop into a true playmaker for them.
