The Chicago Bears appear to be open to trading Justin Fields. Could the New England Patriots swing a deal for the player this offseason?  If some in the organizatiton are not fully sold on Mac Jones being the long-term option for the team, then this is the perfect offseason to bring someone new in.

There will be a ton of quarterback movement this offseason.  Some of this movement will truly shake up various teams and entire conferences.  All of Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo, Ryan Tannehill, Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rodgers, and even Justin Fields could be on the move.

Justin Fields is especially interesting as he was drafted by the previous regime and is not connected to the new GM and HC.

The Bears have also been a bit noncommittal on Fields, making it seem like they could move the second year player for the right price.  Fields was a disaster in his first year but took strides this year as a passer and did rush for over 1,000 yards.

I do think he showed enough to be viewed as a franchise QB, as some of his attributes are exactly what the modern-day QB looks like.

He’s got good size, a decent arm, and can do a ton of damage with his legs.  There are still questions about him as a passer, but his passer rating jumped a whopping 12 points from year one to year two.  His completion percentage also jumped nearly two percentage points.

Fields would give the Patriots a high-ceiling passer that could potentially go toe to toe with the likes of Josh Allen and Tua Tagovailoa.  He has a dynamic enough skillset to add another elite wrinkle to the offense and certainly has a higher ceiling than Mac Jones.

The Patriots could include their 14th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft along with Mac Jones as the framework for the deal.

New England may have to include another pick or player in the deal, but the opportunity to get Fields in a Patriot uniform might be the break that the team is looking for on offense.
