The New England Patriots have big-time needs at wide receiver and along the offensive line. Which team could get in the way of them filling these holes?  Unfortunately, New England is not the only team that has needs on their roster.

And they are not the only team that has cap space to spend either, so they’ll have some competition.  They have needs at wide receiver and along the offensive line, and between free agency and the NFL Draft, a few teams could make life difficult for New England.

Teams that could get in the Patriots’ way this offseason

Baltimore Ravens

One of the most obvious issues of any team in the NFL are the Ravens and needing a true WR1.  Their passing attack has not been dynamic because of it, and they recently parted with now former offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Players like Brandin Cooks, Mike Evans, and DeAndre Hopkins could all be on the move this offseason, and I think the Patriots would have serious interest in all of those players, but so would the Ravens.

Baltimore is closer to contending for a Super Bowl, so they might be hyper aggressive in adding to their offense.

Denver Broncos

A team that has needs along the offensive line are is the Denver Broncos, who recently traded for Sean Payton.  Their right tackle situation is far from settled, and Garett Bolles suffered a season-ending injury early in the 2022 season.

The Broncos can also create enough cap space to be competitive in free agency.  They don’t have a first or second round picks, so they won’t be a threat in the draft, but free agency could be an issue if the Patriots want to add at this position in FA.

San Francisco 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers need some help in the secondary this offseason, specifically at cornerback, and guess, what?

The New England Patriots have the same issue as well.  Free agent cornerbacks like Marcus Peters and James Bradberry could be targeted by New England, but with the 49ers now likely having a QB on a super cheap rookie deal in Brock Purdy, they might have more money to spend in free agency.

The Patriots could likely outbid any offer the 49ers were to make, but there’s also the concern of them getting someone in the NFL Draft that New England could also use as well.
