Bucs players the Patriots should inquire about

Chris Godwin

AGE: 26
CONTRACT: Signed through 2024 – final two years voided
2022 STATS: 15 games – 104 receptions for 1,023 yards, 3 touchdowns
CAP SPACE IMPLICATIONS FOR 2023: Base salary – $20,000,000 | Cap hit – $23,750,000

If Evans is off the table, whether due to price tag or another factor like age, the Patriots could show interest in another talented receiver in Chris Godwin.

The 26-year-old has played just as vital a role for the Bucs as his teammate Evans, working in tandem for both Jameis Winston and Brady since 2017. Besides his one Pro Bowl season in 2019, Godwin has taken a prominent role on the field, totaling over 1,000 yards over the last two years.

Although he would undoubtedly boost the Patriots’ receiving corps, his injury history creates hesitation for New England if they are interested in acquiring him.

It could work in their favor, however, as they may be able to use that as a reason for a discount when making the trade. Additionally, Tampa will probably be more willing to move on from Godwin due to clearing $20 million in cap space if they trade him, nearly half the amount they’re currently over. And if that’s the case, the Patriots may have a good shot at adding an incredible asset to their offensive roster.

Bucs’ details for trading Godwin this offseason after 6/1:

2023 Dead Cap: $3,750,000
2024 Dead Cap: $11,250,000

2023 Cap Savings if Godwin is traded: $20,000,000
