This situation will most likely be the reality for the Patriots going into 2023.

While Jones didn’t have the most ideal 2022 season, and looking at potential improvements the team could make in the offseason is always a good idea: Mac should be the starter of this team next season.

Let’s give Mac the benefit of the doubt; the odds were not in his favor this season. The combination of a mid-season injury, limited offensive weapons, and by facing the wrath of Matt Patricia’s play calling, Mac struggled, and that’s to be expected.

When you look into the second half of last season (let’s say from the point after Chicago game), Mac was actually pretty effective.

In those ten games, Mac threw twelve touchdowns to five interceptions, threw close to 2,200 passing yards, and kept nine of those games within one possession. Keep in mind, this is with all of the problems previously mentioned still being against him.

Next season, Mac will have a new play caller in Bill O’Brien, who previously coached him during his time at Alabama. There’s also potential for the Patriots to go out and sign and/or trade for other weapons to help support Mac Jones (hoping for a DeAndre Hopkins here).

With a combination of improved offensive talent and more offensive stability, we should (hopefully) be in store for a new and improved Mac Jones in 2023.
