Patriots who have played their last game for the team

Mac Jones, QB

After two years in the NFL, what exactly has Mac Jones done to prove to the Patriots that he is the franchise quarterback of this team?  Sure, he was very good in 2021, finishing with a passer rating in the low 90s and guiding the team to a playoff berth, but was that more Josh McDaniels?

In 2022, Jones regressed a bit.  He still completed over 65% of his passes and showed flashes, but the year two jump that many were hoping for simply did not come true.  Perhaps some may pin most of the blame on Matt Patricia, and I would not argue with that, but ask yourself seriously;

Can Mac Jones really guide this team to where they need to be?  I think the answer is no, and I do believe that Bill Belichick will find a noticeable quarterback upgrade this offseason.  Whether it’s Lamar Jackson, Derek Carr, or even a Tom Brady reunion, I am not sure simply changing the play-caller will be good enough for this offseason.

Mac Jones could fit right at home as a Raider if McDaniels and co. are willing to send Derek Carr to New England in a potential deal.

We’ll see what happens when the NFL postseason ends and the 2022 season is wrapped up, but I would not be surprised if Mac Jones is wearing another jersey in 2023.
