Patriots’ Matthew Judon claps back at fan on Twitter
The emergence of Matthew Judon as a dominant force on the Patriots defense isn’t anything new. Although he’s on pace to have the best season of his career in just his second year in New England, he was consistently an effective pass rusher during his time with the Baltimore Ravens.
But apparently, Ravens fans don’t love what they see from their former defensive end.
As Judon’s outstanding season continues, one Ravens fan called out the three-time Pro Bowler on Twitter after seeing a post about Judon’s stats this season. In his response, Judon tried to let him know his feelings in his typical polite fashion.
During the five years spent playing in Baltimore, Judon totaled 34.5 sacks, averaging 6.9 sacks per season, with seven forced fumbles, and was selected for the Pro Bowl twice, in 2019 and 2020.
His performance has become more impressive since he joined the Patriots in 2021. Judon instantly became a leader for the team’s young defense, and in his first season, he obliterated nearly every measurable stat he had earned before joining the team.
The 2021 season was his most outstanding, with 12.5 sacks, 60 combined tackles, and 25 quarterback hits. His production earned him another Pro Bowl selection, and his start this season could become the most memorable yet.
Leading the NFL with 11.5 sacks through nine games, Judon is on pace to end the year with 21.7 sacks, according to PFF. If he continues to play how he has so far, he could easily shatter Andre Tippett’s single-season franchise record of 18.5 sacks.
On top of that, Judon could also break the NFL record for sacks in a season, set by Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt, which sits at 22. With eight games left to play, that may happen by the season’s end.
Although this fan followed up on Judon’s response claiming not to be unhappy about his success in New England, there is undoubtedly some jealousy from his words. But the feeling from Patriots fans is far from disappointed and they consistently applaud Bill Belichick’s work to acquire one of the best defensive players in the league.
