After this weekend, the AFC East has all four teams with a winning record and is easily the best division in all of football.  This division is absolutely loaded.  To me, it’s the best in football and most balanced from top to bottom.

Week nine was a special one, and the division didn’t see much movement, but the teams are just a little bit closer.  The Buffalo Bills lost, and the New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots all won their week nine contests.

AFC East standings after week nine of the 2022 season

1. Buffalo Bills (6-2)

The 6-2 Buffalo Bills lost in week nine to the Jets.  Perhaps you could call it an upset.  The Jets defense played well and Zach Wilson took care of the ball.  Josh Allen threw two interceptions and the Bills weren’t able to get it done.  At 6-2, Buffalo is still the best team in the AFC, but this loss definitely stings for them.  They are 3-0 at home and 3-2 away, along with having a +102 point differential.

2. New York Jets (6-3)

One of the most surprising teams in the NFL continues their magical season.  For the most part, in spite of Zach Wilson, the Jets find ways to find.  Their latest victory was a true testament to how gritty of a team they are and the kind of talent they have.

They’re 4-0 away, which is insane, but I do think we are seeing a team prepared to make a massive quarterback upgrade next offseason if one presents itself.  The Jets are a good team, but its clear that Zach Wilson is the weaklink.

3. Miami Dolphins (6-3)

The 6-3 Miami Dolphins could have the best offense in the NFL.  They were active at the trade deadline, adding Bradley Chubb and Jeff Wilson.  They do have a negative point differential but have shown a strong ability to put points on the board.

Tua Tagovailoa is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in football and the duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle is historic in 2022.  The Dolphins seem to be more of a finesse team, though.

4. New England Patriots (5-4)

Your New England Patriots are 5-4 on the season and have a much earned bye week ahead of them After a 1-3 start, the team won four out of its next five to get themselves in a solid spot.  One thing that sticks out to me is the loss at home against the Bears.

A huge loss that could have easily gone the other way.  If so, we’d be looking at an AFC East with each team having six wins.  Oh well, can’t win them all.  The second half of the Patriots’ schedule is tougher than their first, so you’d have liked to see them be 6-3 at the bye.

However, they are in a good spot, and I trust Bill Belichick to get this team started off on the right foot after their break.
