New England Patriots defense rolls over Colts in week nine
The New England Patriots’ defense rolled over the Indianapolis Colts in week nine and have gotten themselves to 5-4 heading into the bye week. Total and utter dominance today. The Patriots’ defense put on perhaps the best defensive performance we’ve seen by a team this year against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts’ offensive line was totally embarrassed by the Patriots this afternoon. They were able to not only hold Indy out of the endzone, but also notch nine sacks in the game, tying a franchise record.
The Patriots’ defense did not convert a single third down, going 0/14 and 0/2 on fourth downs. The Colts had just 120 total yards, with 42 coming through the air and 78 coming on the ground for a scary 2.0 yards per play.
Not only that, both Matthew Judon and Josh Uche notched three sacks, bringing Judon’s total to 11.5 with only nine games played, putting him on pace for 222 sacks this year.
Jonathan Jones notched a pick six as well late in the game, and six different Patriots recorded sacks on Sunday afternoon. Nick Folk was money again, hitting all four of his field goals. Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for 60 yards on 15 carries and also added the lone offensive touchdown on the day for both teams with a one handed snag in the first half.
Mac Jones went 20/30 for 148 yards and one touchdown. Jones was by no means perfect, and the offense under Jones’ leadership has been less than ideal for most of the season. However, at the end of the day, the Patriots head into the bye week at 5-4 and some much needed rest ahead.
Not only that, the Dolphins and Jets both won today, so that makes the Buffalo Bills the lone AFC East team to lose. The division has all teams with at least five wins, and it’s unreal to think that the Patriots at 5-4 are last.
