The 2022 NFL trade deadline is at 4PM, EST later today. Will the New England Patriots make any moves before the time is up?  The 4-4 Patriots are currently the 8th seed in the NFL playoff picture and just a half game behind the Los Angeles Chargers for the 7th and final playoff spot.

No one is expecting them to win the Super Bowl this year, but making the playoffs in back to back seasons after Tom Brady leaves would be a nice accomplishment and something to build on for 2023.  A brutal loss to the Bears two weeks ago was followed up by a nice win against the New York Jets.

All things considered, the team is probably where they should be at this point.  Their next test is this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.  The Colts, who are starting Sam Ehlinger for the rest of the season, are 3-4-1 and look about as lost as a team can be.  Frank Reich’s job is likely up in the air and the Colts’ offense has been bad this year.

The Patriots have yet another excellent chance to bring their record above .500 heading into their bye week.  Since they are firmly in the playoff mix, what should they do at the deadline?

To be honest, I think they’ll sell more than they buy.  Isaiah Wynn is the most logical candidate to be moved as many teams are looking for offensive line help and with Wynn being a free agent at the end of the season, he us unlikely to be re-signed.

Getting what you can for Wynn would be a huge bonus for the Patriots.  I also think one of Nelson Agholor or Kendrick Bourne could get moved.  Jakobi Meyers, Tyquan Thornton, and DeVante Parker appear to be a trio that the team could go with.  Moving Agholor or Bourne and getting a mid-later draft pick might be the most ideal scenario, especially since Agholor is a free agent at the end of the year.

Damien Harris, the fourth year running back from Alabama, could also be moved.  He has seen his workload and yards per carry decrease this year, and Rhamondre Stevenson’s emergence is a great thing for New England.  To me, there is no way that the Patriots would pay Damien Harris in free agency next year, so I think he is another candidate to be moved.
