Patriots veterans risk it all with post-game celebration
The Patriots had a lot on the line coming into their game against the Jets on Sunday. With their win, Bill Belichick solidified his coaching legacy even more as he officially became the second-most-winningest coach of all time in the NFL.
The week eight win became Belichick’s 325th win, including regular season and playoffs, breaking the tie with longtime Bears coach George Halas.
Not one to celebrate personal milestones, Robert Kraft made sure to present Belichick with a game ball during the team’s usual locker room celebration. After receiving quite an ovation from the players, he emphasized that players win the games, and that he’s thankful they have several good players on the team.
But it didn’t end there.
At the end of the celebration video posted by the Patriots on Twitter, Devin McCourty and Matthew Slater shower their coach in celebration with water bottles in one of the more uncharacteristic moments shared by the team. Because of the tenures both players have had with the Patriots, they’re likely some of the only players that could ever get away with soaking Belichick without fearing punishment. And get a smile from the coach in the process.
Although the Patriots haven’t experienced the most successful season so far, seeing an interaction like this is always intriguing. The win was certainly not pretty nor easy, but it’s clear the players genuinely care about each other and their coach. The camaraderie shown is encouraging as they continue to work through several struggles overall and provides insight into the general demeanor regardless of the day’s events.
As they embrace the win and thrive on good vibes, it would be best to maintain those feelings as they head back to Foxboro to face the Colts next week. In another must-win game, building upon this win will be vital in continuing their success heading into the bye week and will hopefully allow them to add another game to the win column.
