AFC East standings after week seven of the 2022 season
The AFC East is turning into one of the best divisions in football. Where do the New England Patriots fall in the division standings? The Patriots squandered a golden opportunity to keep pace in the tough AFC East standings on Monday.
Their opponent was the Chicago Bears, and the Pats laid an egg. They lost by three scores in what was a disgustingly lopsided game. Oh well, it’s over now and the team will shift their focus to the New York Jets, who are a surprising 5-2.
The Dolphins won over the weekend and the Bills were on their bye week, so New England was the lone team to lose in the AFC East.
AFC East standings after week seven of the 2022 season
1. Buffalo Bills (5-1)
The Buffalo Bills might be the best team in the AFC. They already own a tiebreaker over the Kansas City Chiefs, and were just on their bye week. They come out of the bye playing the Green Bay Packers, who are struggling, at home.
The team doesn’t seem to have any weaknesses, and I think it’s safe to say that they are going to continue to win and likely win the division by a few games.
2. New York Jets (5-2)
Don’t look now, but the New York Jets, the JETS, are 5-2 and trail the Bills in the standings by a half a game. Their win over the Broncos wasn’t exactly impressive, but it was gritty, which is a good word to describe the team.
The jury is still out on Zach Wilson, but they have playmakers on offense and their defense is very good. Sauce Gardner might be the defensive rookie of the year and they’ll go as far as their defense and run game can take them.
I think Zach Wilson is the clear weak link on this roster, though.
3. Miami Dolphins (4-3)
After starting 3-0, the Dolphins lost the next three, but the return of Tua Tagovailoa in week seven helped propel them to victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Dolphins appear to be in good hands, but I think they’re a year away from elevating to that next tier.
I’d expect them to win nine or 10 games and fight for a Wild Card spot. First year head coach Mike McDaniel seems to have figured something out. Their next game is against the Detroit Lions.
4. New England Patriots (3-4)
Coming in at last place in the AFC East is the New England Patriots, who crapped the bed on Monday night against the Chicago Bears. The Patriots were destroyed in each phase of the game and didn’t have an answer for the Bears’ rushing attack.
And now, it appears as if the team does not have a clear starter at the quarterback position. The Patriots had a chance to get to 4-3 and keep pace in the AFC East, so this loss stings even more.
