The New England Patriots are riding a two game winning streak and have a great chance to get to 4-3 and continue keeping pace in a very good division.  The AFC East is turning into a heated race.  Perhaps the emergence of the New York Jets has contributed to this.  Either way, the Patriots are in both a great spot and a tough spot.

They play on Monday night at home against the hopeless Chicago Bears.  Bailey Zappe is set to start the game, and the team will look to win their third game in a row.  Not only would three wins in a row be impressive and likely result in rising in the standings, the Patriots are almost needing to win this game tonight, as the AFC East teams simply keep winning.

The Jets and Dolphins won this weekend, bringing the teams to 5-2 and 4-3, respectively.  The Bills are 5-1 and on their bye week, so the Bills are first in the division, which likely won’t change.  The Jets are second and the Dolphins are third with a winning record.

The fourth place team, even with a win tonight, will be the New England Patriots.  4-3 is a solid place to be after seven games.  They’d set themselves up nicely to make a run at a playoff spot, obviously in the Wild Card.

However, it’s quite something knowing how good the division has turned into.  Needing to continue this impressive winning streak just to remain fourth place in the division is a wild thought.  However, the Bears appear to be an easier opponent and the game should not be very competitive.

At this point, I think this division will turn into who is going to break first.  I’d think it’d be the Jets, but they have done just enough to win this year.
