The New England Patriots’ week five victory over the Detroit Lions was their most dominant win of the season. Who gets the game balls?  The team might need to crack open a few new footballs, because there were a bunch of players and even coaches who deserve a game ball after this victory.

The Detroit Lions came into the game with the league’s number one scoring offense and could not score a single point on the Patriots’ defense, who scored a defensive touchdown on a strip sack of Jared Goff.  Not only that, the offense showed some spark today as well.  Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for about 600 yards, and the passing attack was solid.

Overall, who should get a game ball for the Patriots’ week five victory?

Game balls for Patriots’ week five victory

Bailey Zappe

In Zappe’s first start for the Patriots, he showed strong command of the offense, and if it wasn’t for Nelson Agholor failing to haul in a pass that hit off of his hands, Zappe wouldn’t have a blemish on his stat line.  Zappe threw a touchdown pass to Jakobi Meyers and completed 17/21 passes.  He was nearly perfect.  The rookie, at the very least, established himself as the QB2 in New England.

Rhamondre Stevenson

Rhamondre Stevenson had himself a career game.  He rushed the ball 25 times for 161 yards, averaging 6.4 yards per carry.  Damien Harris left the game with an injury, so Stevenson was able to get a bulk of the work.  The Lions’ have arguably the worst rush defense in the NFL, and the Patriots were able to expose that.

Jaokbi Meyers

Jakobi Meyers had a wonderful game, catching seven passes for 111 yards and a touchdown.  He continually proves to be the team’s most reliable pass catcher.  I’d expect the Patriots are going to work their tails off to ensure Meyers is able to stay in New England for the long term.

Nick Folk

Nick Folk went 5/5 today, and without his five field goals, this game could have been a lot closer  Folk has turned into an automatic kicker since arriving in New England.

Since becoming a Patriot in 2019, Folk has hit 85/94 of his field goals, which is a 90.4% success rate.  He’s been insane in his Patriots’ career and simply keeps making them.  He’s also hit over 90% of his extra points as well.
