The AFC East has turned into an interesting division through four weeks of the 2022 season. Where does each team stand in the division?  It’s clear that the Buffalo Bills are the best team in the division, but the Miami Dolphins look renewed under first year head coach Mike McDaniel.

The Jets’ 2-2 record is likely shocking to some, and the Patriots bringing up the rear at 1-3 has them in uncharted territory.  I don’t think we’ll see much more movement in the AFC East for the duration of the season, but anything can happen until it doesn’t.

Let’s take a look at the divisional standings after four weeks of the 2022 NFL season.

AFC East standings after week four of the 2022 season

1. Miami Dolphins (3-1)

The 3-1 Miami Dolphins are first in the division at this time.  They’ve won both of their divisional games so far against the Patriots and Bills, which is huge for the standings at the end of the year.  Miami’s point differential is much lower than the Bills, which makes me think that the Dolphins will end up not staying at the top for long.

Tua Tagovailoa is likely going to be out for some time with his concussion, but Teddy Bridgewater is a nice backup and should be able to hold the fort down in this offense.

2. Buffalo Bills (3-1)

The Buffalo Bills’ lone loss was their game against the Dolphins a couple weeks ago.  It may end up being a huge factor in determining the winner of the AFC East.  The Bills have scored 114 points and have given up just 23.  Both sides of the ball are truly elite, and Josh Allen is going to be an MVP candidate all season.

They are currently a bit banged up, which is what many are attributing to their loss to Miami.  I do think when the two teams matchup in Buffalo, it’ll be a lot different.

3. New York Jets (2-2)

The 2-2 New York Jets might still be a year or two away from competing, but they’re .500 nonetheless after a quarter of the season.  Weirdly enough, they are 0-2 at home but 2-0 on the road.  They have a -25 point differential, so this isn’t exactly a good 2-2 team.

There are still questions about the quarterback position.  Their offensive line is a bit of a mess and the defense has a good bit of young talent that might take more time to gel in the NFL.

I think the Jets could easily finish last in the division again.

4. New England Patriots (1-3)

The New England Patriots have lost two games in a row and are two games under .500.  they are last in the AFC East.  The team is 1-2 on the road and 0-1 at home.  On a brighter note, they have a better point differential than the New York Jets but have the worst scoring offense in the division.

Their first year with Matt Patricia calling plays has not worked like many of us thought.  It’s been a bit of a disaster for the Patriots’ standards, and I’m not sure there’s a clear light at the end of the tunnel.  Perhaps the return of Mac Jones can help put this team in the right direction.
