In FanSided’s week three quarterback rankings, Patriots’ signal caller Mac Jones lands in a poor spot in the weekly updated ranking.  The Patriots’ 2022 season has gotten off to a terrible start, to say the least.  Second year quarterback Mac Jones has had an up and down start to the season, which now sees him set to likely miss some time with a high ankle sprain.

According to Matt Verderame, Mac Jones falls into the 22nd slot after three weeks.  This is a low ranking for Mac Jones, who has definitely shown the ability to be viewed higher than the 22nd best QB in the NFL.

Through three games, he’s thrown 2 touchdowns against five interceptions.  He’s thrown for 786 yards and has completed 66% of his passes.  His three interceptions in week three have made his numbers much worse.  With the implementation of a new offense, struggles would be reasonable to expect, and I don’t think I fault him for struggling seeing as the offensive play-caller is a defensive coach.

I do think if Mac was in a different setting, he’d be doing very well.  Many were expecting the San Francisco 49ers to take Mac Jones back in 2021.  I think if Jones was in that system, he’d be extremely efficient.  Obviously that’s not the case, and I do wonder if his leash is getting a bit shorter.

He’s not an athletically gifted player at the position, and the dual-threat quarterbacks are becoming more and more common in today’s NFL.  I personally think that the Patriots’ signal caller can carve out a career like Kirk Cousins has.

Whether or not that excites you is where the opinions will differ, but Kirk Cousins has been playing for a while and he’s not a bad quarterback.

This ranking puts Mac Jones as the 12th ranked quarterback in the AFC, with guys like Davis Mills, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Flacco, and Mitchell Trubisky.
