After week four, the New England Patriots have buried themselves in the AFC East with some crucial games coming up on their schedule.  It’s an unfortunate start to the season for New England, as they suffered an injury at the most important position in sports.

Mac Jones is likely going to miss a few weeks with his high ankle sprain, and I suppose there’s a chance he could miss significant time.  The Patriots play the Packers and Lions next, and neither opponent will be an easy defeat.

After three games, where do the Patriots fall in the AFC East standings?

Where do Patriots fall in AFC East rankings?

1. Miami Dolphins (3-0)

The Miami Dolphins are the best team in the AFC, record wise.  They won a thriller against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.  Yes, the Bills were missing a ton of players on defense, but it was still a marvelous game from Miami and their rookie head coach, Mike McDaniel.

They’ve score 83 points through three games and have allowed 64, giving them a +19 point differential.  They’re already 2-0 in the division and do have a clear shot at the AFC East title.

2. Buffalo Bills (2-1)

The Buffalo Bills, depending on who you ask, still might be the best team in all of the NFL, even after their loss to the Dolphins.  Their defense was banged up for the game, and Josh Allen is off to a torrid start yet again.

They’ve scored 91 points through three games and have allowed just 38.  Buffalo should go on a winning streak whenever some of their defensive players can return to the field, and I expect them to finish with a very high playoff seed.

3. New York Jets (1-2)

Yes, the Jets are ahead of the Patriots in the AFC East standings.  Both clubs are 1-2, but the Jets have yet to play a divisional game, which is a better record than the Patriots’ 0-1 record.  The Jets are largely still a bad team, and should get Zach Wilson back very soon.

I still like the Patriots taking both of their matchups with the Jets  this season.  New York does have a nice roster, though.  General Manager Joe Douglas has made some nice draft picks and free agents signings, but Zach Wilson was quite bad in his rookie season, and he’s missed the beginning of year two.

4. New England Patriots (1-2)

As of now, the New England Patriots are the last team in the division.  Technically, they are only a game behind the Buffalo Bills, and they do have the same record as the New York Jets.  The hope is that Mac Jones doesn’t miss much time with his high ankle sprain.

If not, the Patriots do have a chance to dig themselves out of this small hole they’re in early in the season.  There are still 14 games left, and anything can indeed happen. The Patriots’ next game is against the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau.
