The Patriots might have their backs against the wall, but there are still some players left on the open market that could help the team this year.  The team is set to take on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, which will likely be their biggest test of the season so far.

The Ravens did come off a historic collapse against the Miami Dolphins, but they’re still a very talented team and they do have Lamar Jackson.  The Patriots are likely buried in the AFC when it comes to thinking of teams who could actually make the playoffs.

Even with Bill Belichick at the helm, the team just isn’t really seen as a big threat like they were in years past.  So, if the Patriots wanted to bring in some free agents, which three could they target?

Three free agents the Patriots should sign

Devonta Freeman, RB

Devonta Freeman could be a perfect addition for the Patriots, who did recently tryout a couple of them.  Freeman, 30, began his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2014, made back to back Pro Bowls in 2015 and 2016, and solidified his place in the NFL as being a threat on the ground and as a pass catching back, which is essentially a requirement in New England.

He’s got 4,720 career rushing yards on a 4.1 yards per carry average, and he’s caught 298 passes for 2,263 yards.  He’s a true dual-threat RB and did have 766 yards from scrimmage for the Ravens in 2021.  This could also be an opportunity for Freeman to let the Patriots in on some of their offensive scheming since he was with the team in 2021.

Freeman has nearly 100 games of regular season experience and could serve as a very nice RB3 option for the team.  Damien Harris also banged his knee up a bit against the Steelers.
