Last Sunday, New England Patriots veteran WR DeVante Parker was extremely limited in the game plan. This appears to be concerning going forward!

There’s no secret the New England Patriots struggled severely with the Miami Dolphins this past weekend. There were a number of concerns, as well as positive takeaways from the game. However, the most alarming set of information from the game was that the No.1 WR the Patriots traded for in the offseason wasn’t targeted as much as most would’ve liked. The veteran WR who was only targeted twice throughout the entire game was DeVante Parker. While being targeted twice he only caught one pass for nine yards, according to ESPN.

Many believe while this was a disappointing Patriots debut, it wasn’t entirely his or second-year QB Mac Jones’s fault. In fact, many believed the issue begins with Patriots OC Matt Patricia and his incompetence within the offense. Last Sunday, the Patriots manage to hold the high-powered offense featuring Jalen Waddle and Tyreek Hill to only 13 points. However, due to a lack of offense and a turnover they only accounted for one score. Ultimately, not helping the Pats’ chances of winning going forward.

"“Well, it’s obviously a disappointing start here. It was really a pretty even game. Two big plays, 14 points, really skewed the game,” Belichick told reporters in the post-game conference. “ … Not enough good things to win. A couple of bad plays really hurt us. Need to finish some drives better on both sides of the ball and make an impact. Just build on this and go back to work.”"

Is the development of Patriots’ Mac Jones in jeopardy?

Patriots HC Bill Belichick not naming or better yet not signing another offensive coordinator to replace former OC and now Raiders HC Josh McDaniels. While it’s concerning the newly acquired WR hasn’t seen much action within the designed offense, Jones’s development has to be the emphasis. Unfortunately, the lack of Belichick’s spending habits may potentially cost the growth of a solid QB. The offense appears to be extremely stagnant and this comes as no surprise as it appeared this way in the preseason as well.

The Patriots will have to establish an identity within their new offense and learn to trust the capabilities of Jones going forward!
