Mixed within all the discussion about the Patriots’ play-calling debacle, there has been talk involving Mac Jones and where he can go in just his second season.

As one of five quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 2022 draft, Jones’ performance was put under a microscope. Despite leading all those that were drafted before him, conclusions were drawn that Jones had already hit his ceiling. As comical as that may sound, it has become a talking point over the last several months.

After completing one of the more successful rookie seasons in recent memory, Jones made it clear he was determined to build upon that and get even better. That work began fairly quickly after the season ended, as quarterback expert Tom House sent out a tweet in mid-February revealing he was working with someone new.

Not long after the tweet was posted, fans noticed that Jones had liked the tweet, leaving many to believe the secret quarterback had to be him.

It was revealed later that it was indeed Jones that House had worked with, and the two continued their partnership throughout the offseason. Earlier this week, House would appear on the Next-Pats Podcast to discuss not only his career but also what he sees in the Patriots’ quarterback since working with him.

"“I think that Patriots fans realize, they got a quarterback that, between the ears, he’s way more experienced than it actually shows age-wise. If anything he was a little short on some physical things, mechanics were OK but nothing special. And what we found out with his hard work he’s actually matching up his physical and mental-emotional. That combination is going to make for a fun time with the fans of the Patriots this whole season.”"

House would go on to mention that Jones had specifically worked on his weaker areas during their training sessions, including footwork and his throwing mechanics, and how seriously the quarterback takes his job.

"“You’re looking at a young man that is trying to get better at something every stinking day. The net result will be that what was a question mark about how well would he throw down the line, is getting better every day because he’s working at it. Nobody has a better work ethic than this young man.”"

That work ethic encapsulates everything it takes to remain on top of your game and Jones’ seriousness was shown through his social media posts during the offseason. House described all that he offers when working with athletes, from the usual training to even nutritional help, and Jones took part in all of it during their sessions.

"“The sky is the limit for this young man. When an athlete comes to us for throwing mechanics, he’s also going to get functional strength training; he’s also going to get mental-emotional tricks; and he’s also going to look at sleeping and nutrition through recovery.”"

Much of House’s assessment is nothing new to those who watched Jones during his rookie season. His teammates have consistently spoken highly of him and mentioned the amount of work he puts in every single day. But having a legendary expert in the biomechanics of throwing impressed with your dedication to improvement, especially with the talent he has worked with throughout his career, is certainly the highest of compliments.
