New England Patriots should be glad they don’t have this issue

As training camps begin across the NFL, the New England Patriots should be very glad they do not have this big issue on their roster.

There is one clear and obvious hurdle that many NFL teams have to go through at some point.  It’s inevitable that each team goes through this unknown period.  However, for the New England Patriots, while they had this issue pop up a bit last offseason, they surely do not have this major issue anymore, and it should send waves of relief across the fanbase.

The New England Patriots do not have a quarterback issue.  They do not have a starting quarterback competition; the unquestioned starter and leader of the franchise is in the building and currently set to improve for year two.

As I look across each team in the NFL, many of these teams are currently going through this period of uncertainty.  Getting the quarterback position right is the most important thing to do in professional sports at the moment.

An NFL quarterback is the most important job in all of sports, and teams often go years, even decades without finding a franchise player.

After Tom Brady left following the 2019 season, the team turned to Cam Newton to lead the team in 2020.

That experiment obviously did not work, so the team then turned to rookie Mac Jones to take the reigns.

Fortunately, after one year of on-field performance, it’s clear that the team does not have to worry about this position, likely for a long time.

Sure, the Patriots have other issues and positional battles on their roster that they need settled, but they’ve got the most important position in check.  Head coach Bill Belichick was recently very complimentary of Jones, which should excite Patriots’ fans.

Bill Belichick does not often talk about players the way he recently talked about Mac Jones.

The second year player out of Alabama does not have the size or hyper-athleticism that players like Josh Allen and Justin Herbert have, but he possesses everything else that makes a franchise quarterback.

Even if the New England Patriots do not win a ton of games this season, they should rest easy knowing that Mac Jones will likely remain under center for years.  Again, he isn’t a flashy quarterback, but if year one gave us any indication, it’s clear that Mac Jones is going to be a very good player in the NFL for a long time.
